Magnolia Park

The  Magnolia Park communities a part of Service Area A for the City of Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS).  Service Area A is 48.3% Hispanic and 24.7% African American. The poverty rate in Service Area A (218.1 per 1,000 population) is comparable to the rate for the City of Houston (214.9 per 1,000 population) and is greater than the rate for the State of Texas (170.4 per 1,000 population). Up to 70% of the adult population in Area A has completed less than a high school education.  One of the neighborhoods in Area A with the highest proportion of adults represented by this statistic is Magnolia Park. The proportion of Area A residents who reported having high blood pressure was comparable to the city, county, and nation. Overweight and obesity among adults in Area A is higher than the City of Houston, 30.3% and 28.0% respectively, and among African Americans than Hispanics and Whites. Compared to the City of Houston (21%), 24.5% of residents in Area A are meeting the nutritional guidelines for fruit and vegetable intake, while less than half of the residents in Area A are meeting the recommended levels for physical activity.
